Campaign Story

Hello, we are Sam and Amber Mahalovich. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read our story. We are currently seeking assistance in raising funds to help us start a family through in vitro fertilization (IVF). This process is entirely self-funded, and it often presents both emotional and physical challenges. Your support and prayers as we embark on this journey mean a great deal to us. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.

Sam and I were married in 2022, but our journey towards family building began on Thanksgiving 2020. That evening, I experienced severe and agonizing pain, leading to an emergency room visit. Unfortunately, due to hospital policies at the time, Sam was unable to accompany me. I was diagnosed with ovarian torsion and required immediate surgery. For those unfamiliar, ovarian torsion is a medical emergency involving the twisting of the ovary, which can cut off its blood supply.

While awaiting surgery, there were complications in reaching the on-call surgeon, and by the time he arrived, he dismissed my concerns, stating that my ability to move one leg indicated I was fine, and left me without proper care. After being sent home in significant discomfort, I later learned from my follow-up doctor that my medical records had been erased and my condition was written off as a simple cyst rupture. I endured months of persistent pain, which ultimately led to me leaving my job. After rigorous testing, my OBGYN finally recommended exploratory surgery, which I underwent in March 2021. It was confirmed that I did have ovarian torsion, and additionally, an infection had developed, leading to complications that resulted in the loss of one of my fallopian tubes.

By 2022, after our marriage, we decided to continue trying to grow our family. We were hopeful based on medical advice suggesting that pregnancy was still possible with one remaining fallopian tube. However, after a year of trying and confirming the functionality of the remaining tube, we consulted a fertility specialist. During our initial appointment, we were informed that, prior to proceeding with IVF, the remaining tube would need to be removed.

In early 2025, I underwent surgery to have the remaining tube removed. During my surgical procedure the surgeon informed Sam that the tube was completely blocked despite previous tests indicating it was open, which has added to the emotional strain of this journey. Nevertheless, we are dedicated to pursuing IVF, as we believe it is the best option for us.

We encourage you to share our story with anyone in your life who may be dealing with tubal factor infertility or navigating the complexities of IVF treatment. I would be glad to share the insights I’ve gained and support others on this path. Thank you for your consideration and support.
